ABOUT THE THRILL OF IT:

A new adult story of Love. Sex. Addiction. Blackmail. And Power...

Some say love can be an addiction. Others say it's the thing that makes life worth living. Let me tell you everything I know about love...Love isn't patient, love isn't kind. Love is a game, a chase. A thrill. Love is wild and war-like, and every man and woman must fight for themselves. At least that's how it was for me. A high-priced virgin call girl by the time I started college, I was addicted to love and to sex. Even though I've never had either. I controlled love, played it, and held the world in the palm of my hands. Then I fell down from those highs, and I'm being blackmailed for all my mistakes, forced to keep secrets from everyone, except the only guy I don't regret.

Trey...

With all the other women, I knew what they were. They were temporary. They were pills, they were bottles, they took away all the pain, and numbed the awful memories that wore down my ragged, wasted heart. Until I met Harley. She's the only girl I ever missed when she walked away. But now she's back in my life, every day, and there are no guarantees for us, especially since I don't know how to tell her my secrets. What happened to my family. All I know is she's the closest I've ever come to something real, and I want to feel every second of it.

How can you love with no regrets when regret is all you know?

(I received this book from the author for an honest review.)

I am a huge Lauren Blakely fan.  Her writting calls to me and draws me in.  The characters she creates invite the reader into their lives.  In The Thrill of It Lauren brings us Harley and Trey, two twenty-somethings struggling with love, lust and addiction.

"We're losing control

Will you turn me away or touch me deep inside?
And before this gets old, will it still feel the same?
There's no way this will die
But if we get much closer, I could lose control
And if your heart surrenders, you'll need me to hold

We are young, heartache to heartache we stand
No promises, no demands
Love Is A Battlefield"

- Love is a Battlefield by: Pat Benatar

I have said this before, but for those who may have missed it, for whatever reason Lauren's books make me what to tease my bangs, securing them a bottle of Aquanet before pulling up my neon leg warms over my acid washed jeans all while rocking out the 80's rock ballads.  I don't know why.  What is even odder is I am a tad too young to feel any real connection with that era.  Though my driver's licence indicates I was born in that decade, the memories of my youth are linked more with the magical decade that was the 90's.  Reading Harley and Trey's struggles had me playing 'Love is a Battlefield' and 'Don't Stop Beleiving' on repeat.  For me these two songs embody this novel.

After spending her childhood growing up with a mother who was more like a sister, Harley's life is missing a mother's love that is the foundation on which all other loves are built upon.  Desperately she tries to create those emotions on unsturdy ground, but it is so hard.  Her longing and desire to feel something remotely close to love becomes an addiction.  She needs her next thrill, her next fix of power... lust... desire... love.

Trey had that a sturdy foundation.  Growing up he had two loving parents who did the best they could.  But even the strongest house cannot withstand the tornado of grief and in an instant all love and admiration was swept away.  Staring into the wake of destruction Trey felt empty.  He turned to sex to fill that void.  Years later he lacks all real connections to those around him and all he has is his addiction.

Finding each other in the most unlikely place Trey and Harley find their most sacred desires within each other.  But with little to compare to can they trust the emotions they are feeling?  Can they find the strength to trust each other?  Can they find the "ugly beautiful" in each other?  Find out in The Thrill of It now available on Amazon.

Happy reading!!
