Shattered Promises
By: Jessica Sorensen

Synopsis:  **Mature Content Warning** 17+ for language and sexual content.
(A re-imagining of my young adult book, The Fallen Star, told as a New Adult Paranormal. You can download the young adult version, The Fallen Star, for free on Amazon.)

For twenty-one year-old Gemma, life has never been normal. She knows nothing about her past and has been haunted by the same monsters in her nightmares for the last few months. Unemotional and numb to life, she feels disconnected from everyone. Until the very first day she cries. After that, nothing in her life is the same.

Her emotions slowly surface and she starts experiencing love, happiness, and anger, feelings she never knew existed. But they leave her confused and she doesn’t know whether to embrace them or run away from them.

Her life only gets more complicated when she meets Alex. Sexy, arrogant, and secretive, Alex can get under Gemma’s skin like no one can. Yet she’s drawn to him by an invisible connection she has no control over. She’s also seen him before. In her nightmares.

Every part of Gemma’s mind is screaming at her to stay away from Alex, but every other part of her is begging to get close to him. But the closer she gets, the more she realizes Alex knows more about her than he originally let on.

As secrets about her past unravel, Gemma’s life becomes threatened. She needs to figure out what’s going on, before she winds up dead. But the only person she can turn to for answers is the one person she isn’t sure she can trust.

Review:  I have said it before, but I will say it again, I love paranormal novels because anything goes.  There are no rules.  Everything you think you know about reality is a joke.  Every wildest dream and fairy tale is real.  Gemma learns this very quickly in Shattered Promises.

"No matter how many supernatural books I've read, it's a hell of a lit different that real life."

"...was as if I was an object that filled up space, moved without cause and served no purpose."

Gemma is a college senior who has never felt a single human emotion.  She has witnessed a wide variety of them, but could never understand.  Inside she is numb, left wondering if that is how she would live the rest of her life.  If perhaps some people simply do not feel emotions like everyone else.  Resigning to theory her whole world is thrown upside down when something snaps and the flood gates open.

"He moves like a cat with measured stretches of his long limbs and every muscle in his body flexes underneath his grey Henley and jeans."

Alex is unlike any man Gemma has met.  He is hot and then cold.  Up then down.  Friendly then mean.  Trying to understand the pattern of his emotions is exhausting.  Furthermore, she has a distinct feeling that she has met him before.  What Gemma doesn't realize is how right those new found feelings are.

"I'm starting to realize that maybe I'm not as crazy as I've always thought.  Maybe everyone is crazy.  Maybe crazy is actually normal."

Thrown into a world where reality and lore are intertwined, Gemma must determine who she can trust and who she must be leery of.  Will she be able to decipher her past and change the course of her future?

I have fallen in love with Jessica Sorensen's style of writing.  Every time I pickup one of her books I am never disappointed.  She take the reader on an unbelievable journey and makes them second guess everything they know to be real.  I loved the layers of deception.  The mystery and suspense of Gemma's journey.  I watched anxiously to see if Gemma could breakdown the Alex's walls.

I have to warm you this novel ends with a giant cliffhanger, which I have come to expect from the author.  Have no fear though, Fractured Souls is live on Amazon.

Until next time,

Happy Reading!!
